The Tuff-Luv flip style case is absolutely what I was looking for in terms of the hands free reading environment.

All the buttons, slides and outlets are accessible while in the case. The construction is precise and handsome to look at. You never need to remove it from the case if you so desire. I use the OCTOVO Solis – Kindle 2 Reading Light and it fits fine while in the case. You cannot close the Tuff-Luv case while the light is in place though. As I use a reading light while reading in bed, it gets set on the nightstand when not in use.

The leather is good quality – just a teensy tiny bit on the thin side for me, since I’m a fan of thick leathers. This type of leather (Napa) should hold up and burnish beautifully with usage. The i-nique portfolio Limited Edition Platinum series leather case cover for Amazon Kindle 2 may be have thicker leather but I am not completely sure. Something to consider for those who use their Kindles more ruggedly.

Only wish is for the “kickstand” that is produced for this case, would extend all the way to the edge. As it is now, the kickstand is shorter than the cover, and I cannot situate the cover when I flip it over to fit a small footprint on the table. The cover juts out for a footprint of about 10″ depth vs. a preferred 5-6 inches on my desk. Otherwise, the cover itself would be perfectly acceptable to use as the easel when space is at a premium.

Highly recommended.

There’s not much to say about the product. It’s a good solid cover. Like other Kindle covers, it attaches to the Kindle’s left edge by two hooks that slide into the slots on the Kindle. With some of the other Kindle covers, this type of connection doesn’t fully secure the Kindle. For example, if you were to hold the cover open and turn it over, the Kindle itself would hang down by it’s left edge, like pages from a book. This can put tension on the Kindle where it connects to the cover and warp and bend the connectors, or even bend or crack the Kindle itself along its left edge. This cover has two corner straps that slide over the right corners of the Kindle, securing it to the bottom cover so that it never puts tension on the Kindle.

The inside is a soft material that won’t scratch or harm the Kindle’s display. The cover is firm and will protect the Kindle from items being dropped on it (while the cover is closed).

Downsides are that it may or may not protect the Kindle if it is dropped, depending upon if it is open when it hits the ground (and how it hits). It also easily doubles the thickness of the Kindle, and adds sufficient weight to it. If you bring your Kindle out with you a lot, it’s a great cover because it will help protect it. If you mainly read your Kindle at home while in bed or in a reading chair, then a sleeve will probably serve you better as the Kindle will be lighter and thinner.

M-Edge Executive Leather Kindle DX Jacket (Fits 9.7″ Display, 2nd Generation Kindle DX), Smooth Black Review

I work for a company that has bought a Kindle DX for our 20+ board and committee members. I bought one of these jackets for my Kindle (a brown one), and when I was asked to get jackets for the board member’s Kindles I went with this brand.

It doesn’t add too much bulk to the Kindle, and has a place to hold a few papers for notes. It’s very easy to get the Kindle in and out, although since it’s not too bulky I seldom ever take it out. It’s been durable – just today I spilled coffee on it and it just wiped right off.

The black ones and the brown ones look professional (can’t comment on the other colors because I haven’t seen them first hand). I’m ok with the way it closes (it’s not a latch, the leather strap slips into a “pocket” on the front) but I could see how it might bother some. It actually gets easier over time as it gets worn in.

I recommend this over the Amazon binder/jacket because this doesn’t have any hard metal clips that might scratch the Kindle. It’s held in place by leather corner straps, the top two have small bits of elastic that allow you to slide it in easily. The straps don’t interfere with the Kindle’s buttons, speakers or power port.

The only downside to this binder/jacket is that there is really not enough room for a decent notepad. That really doesn’t bother me, and it’s a fair tradeoff to keep the bulk down.
Overall, a great product.
